As a sufferer of PTSD, I have had the privilege of befriending many people, just a few soldiers, who deal with this everyday. I can only say that the human spirit was not designed to witness or experience such horrific happenings. What I found to be the best solutions, none of which are a cure, are these: talk--share your experiences and allow/encourage others to share theirs; Create, creative outlets keep one in the present and quiets the chatter; Be still with nature and breathe as the trees without concern for the next moment or reflecting on the  past; Slow down--slow down every action and every thought; experience the re-experiencing without fear as much as possible again and again until you are leaning toward acceptance; Be without judgement against oneself, observe the trauma with curiosity; Most importantly know that the responses we have are not abnormal they are the only response the human spirit could have; and finally I, myself,  act, or try to, receive the lesson, the opportunity for growth of my spirit and know that I, as Viktor Frankl writes, must strive to be worthy of my suffering---I use it as a stepping stone to improve my soul condition, otherwise I will be dishonoring of the life given to me and the losses I've witnessed.

I hope this helps some. Sharing is good.
