I was listening to a song by Tannis Slimmon (who's coming to my place for a house concert in a couple of weeks), one where she is joined by David Francey
for a duet. Great stuff. I first came to David when I saw that on his Waking Hour CD his band was KWK -- great recording!
Anyway, I was listening to this song and thought how nice it was to hear male and female voices together, and resolved to put together a playlist for my system of such songs. Except the list I've been able to come up with is pathetically slim. Aside from the back catalog of Dolly and Porter, I'm hard pressed to come up with much. There are the classic recordings of Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong, a nice library from Richard and Linda Thompson (although most of these have Linda as sole vocalist), nice songs with female back-up singers, not really duets, like Martin Simpson's Never Any Good with Kate Rusby, and a few other odds and ends. I'm sure I have more but my memory is failing me. Oh, yes, there is Portland, Oregon by Jack White and Loretta Lynn.
So any ideas and suggestions? I'd like to find more true duets, not just back-up singing. Any genre.
