My name is Milli Wilson and my beautiful, brave husband Andy passed away in November of 2005 aged 46. He was a passionate man who loved his music and always
chose a song to mark special occasions, even his cancer diagnosis. In the last few weeks of his life he was admitted to a palliative care hospice due to his
needs being greater than what I alone could deliver. It was within this unit that an incredible and kind nurse befriended Andy, treating him with such dignity
and humour that we could forget where we were for long moments. This same nurse, Sarah, introduced Andy to the music of Kevin Welch and Kieran Kane and I
believe Andy may have even written to Kevin at one point. His last week with us was spent listening to Kevin's words and he chose A Prayer Like Any Other
to have played at his funeral immediately upon hearing it. When he was choosing the music for his service Sarah told him that his would be the best funeral
soundtrack ever and suggested he charge the congregation something unique for the pleasure of listening. Naturally he thought this was a great idea and made
many, many copies to be distributed at his wake for the fee of a smile. That was my husband to the bone.
I came across the funeral CD a few weeks ago when cleaning out cupboards and immediately put it into the player. It has my husband's hand writing on the cover and his instructions for the order of play inside. I had wanted to write to Kevin after the funeral to say thank you for making my husband happy but never found the time or words. When I looked him up on the Internet recently and found this forum I read through many posts and realised that his music has touched a lot of lives in many ways. So this is my little thank you for being an important part of a happy memory during a trying time. Bless your soul.
As an aside, our first grandchild was born two weeks ago. A healthy little boy named Andrew John Minter who possesses my husbands' cheeky green eyes. Life surely does go on and with its marching brings new pleasures.
