just saw "where the wild things are"...do not mistake the fact that this is an adaptation of a children's book with the fact that this is a
children's movie...it is not...the movie is dark, depressing, somewhat violent, and hard to follow in spots...as many of the folks here have children,
grandkids, and the like, thought a word of warning might be in order...
now, will adults like it? i didn't...while i understand the necessity to flesh out a 10 sentence book to a feature length script, they failed to capture the spirit of forgiveness and unconditional love that is so intrinsic to the allegory of the book...what they did get right was the costuming and cinematography...an amazing job of capturing the art that is essential to the story...but not enough to make up for the other shortcomings...my favorite book as a child, and for the price of two matinee tickets you can buy the book and read it to the young ones...a better time will be had by all...
