So it's been mentioned that things are slow here....and Facebook is the culprit. In the spirit of the holiday (and because I'm not FB friends with all of you - AND because those of you who are FB connections only see me post when I find something amusing, an animal has died and I am devastated or am extremely pissed off), I offer a "holiday letter" of what's been going on up near Chicago. I invite others to share as well, so we can re-connect at some point this year.
It's been a busy theatre year for me...Stage Managed 3 productions and ran the light board for a 4th. I was offered to be SM for the 4th, but it was an all kids show. Not interested in making kids cry with my stern SM "style" and piss off parents, I declined and hid in the booth. Surprisingly, that was one of my favorite shows I worked on this year. Also, I SM'd an entertainment stage for a 3-day Labor Day festival. That was a first for me. The Sound guy said everything went on at the exact right time and that never happens. Go me.
Work is pointless...I work for Solo Cup (now part of Dart Container Corporation) and all of our job responsibilities have been moved to their corporate office in Mason, MI. So, I get paid a heap of money to sit here and FB and play solitaire 8 hours a day with the earliest end date of August 1st of next year. Sigh. I've had some interviews, but apparently I need to go to a re-fresher course on how to interview. It's not gone well (see previous comment about FB posting when extremely pissed off).
We vacationed once again this year in New Orleans and upon arriving back to the Illinois border, have decided "f*ck this, we're moving south". Ideally into New Orleans proper, but any LA, AL, MS area would be okay. We don't know when and how, but we are working with the "start with a goal and then figure out how to achieve it" system. Given my job status and Doug's flexibility as a contractor, we're rolling the dice to find something "south" in a year or two. Football related - we are now Saints fans. This Jay Cutler - Bears malarchy has been too much to handle - and the dorkus gets to PLAY AGAIN this Sunday. I'm betting Minnesota will be scoring in the triple digits. Just watch.
My family is good, but we lost Doug's dad, Frank on May 3rd and his Dear, Dear Uncle Max on Nov.26th. Seeing my family tomorrow and his sister and cousins on Saturday - with a stop at my best friend's family on Christmas Day. It will be real different this year. Additionally, we lost Angry Kitten 3 days before Doug's Dad (in fact I was putting her down when Doug texted me his Dad was going to the hospital). She was an Angry, but sometimes sweet, cat that never grew. So - now we're are down to 1 dog, 1 cat and assorted fish. In other family news, my niece, Amanda, got engaged to her boyfriend...sharing this lovely news with the ENTIRE FAMILY via TEXT ("hey, look what I just got" the caption of the picture of her hand with a ring on it). Doug's nephew, Robert, is re-enlisting in the Navy in August for his 2nd term (or whatever it's called) and is also engaged. That one we won't talk about. There's time for him to change his mind.
Haven't been into music too much this year - should rectify that in 2015. The sound guy for my last 2 theatre jobs this year was heavily into all sorts of music - when he started playing Americana - I was able to give him Kevin, Dustin and the Trishas to him as a suggestion. Got the thumbs up from him the following week. In return, he turned me back on to Fiona Apple. Win-Win.
Well...that's about it. Hope you all have a very special Holiday, Christmas, Hannakuh, Festivus celebrations and hold your loved ones tight.
Don't leave me hanging - what's going on with all y'all???
