Was amused to see Fats Kaplin turn up in the documentary "Another Day Another Time: Celebrating the Music of Llewyn Davis". It's tied in with the Coen Brothers film set in the early 60s folk world. I liked the movie, but the documentary (and associated CD) is outstanding.
It has a lot of very fine players and singers, both pure folk, some more Americana/roots types and some rock crossovers -- the latter includes Elvis Cosello, Patti Smith and Jack White -- Fats has been touring with the latter and supports him during Jack's numbers. He gets a fair bit of face time back stage and on stage in the documentary.
To my taste, the outstanding performances are from Rhiannon Giddens (Carolina Chocolate Drops) and from the Punch Brothers -- the latter functioning as a kind of house band, the former bringing down the house with an Odetta tune and one sung in Gaelic.
Was nice to see Fats getting such a nice piece of the action.
